To all fellow Billiards players.
I thought a few notes on the amended handicap system would benefit everyone.
At the last AGM it was decided, on suggestion from committee, that we have a look into the huge Receive Handicaps that have been allowed over the last two years.
In an attempt to attract new players and keep the frailer and less able amongst us in with a chance, we have allowed the maximum to raise for R35 to R50. This has proved successful as can be borne out by the close finishes we have witnessed in the League in recent years.
However, when faced with a R 50 or R 40 player who can all of a sudden knock in a 20 break, its only right that we look to even the playing field.
It was decided that, after we had applied the Ivor Palmer end of season adjustment that we look to reduce the maximum allowed back to R35.
It transpired that a 30% reduction would be needed and this was then applied across the board.
The result is this;
Take my handicap of R30,
after I.P. adjustment I would have been reduced to R25
Take 30% off this, reducing it further to R18
Rounded to nearest 5 gives me R20.
With this 30% being applied across the board the committee felt it a good and fair way to resolve the situation.
We still welcome new players and will allocate a Provisional Handicap if necessary, which will be reviewed after the player has played 4 matches.
Yours
