SNOOKER 2008/9 BILLIARDS 2008/9 USEFUL STUFF |
The Aggregate System of Handicapping (Billiards)To try and make Handicapping fair and transparent, as well as attempting to reward, encourage and promote the great game, I hit upon this method of calculating Handicaps; Firstly I would point out that if any player gets ‘in the 90’s’ with the standard 100 up, he is deemed to have reached the Benchmark (i.e. got close enough to winning!!) The benchmark therefore, for all players is 90. Then we look at how many games the player has played and the total amount of points he received (i.e. A R20 player, having played 6 frames has received 120 points) Then total the points scored in all games and deduct the Total Handicap. Next, divide this figure by the games played to achieve an average net points score per frame played. If the total here is 90 or more, the Committee discusses the handicap. If the total is less than 90, the player’s handicap is increased by enough to make it reach 90 (rounded to the nearest 5) Here’s an example:
As a modifier, it has been decided by the Committee that a player’s worst score in each half of the season is excluded from the calculations. This avoids any ‘one-off’ situations, and the bad-day-at-the-office scenario. I hope this explains things as simply as possible, Ivor PalmerCommittee Member
